Interactive tool uses demographic data from 8.4 million records to predict the potential for Hospitalization, ICU Admittance, and Death

PLANO, Texas & BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–InterGen Data, Inc., a leading provider of Life Event Data, analytics, and predictive modeling, is collaborating with graduate students at Brandeis International Business School to analyze and identify the impact of COVID-19 based on Race, Age, Gender, and Pre-existing conditions. InterGen Data has also launched an interactive COVID-19 Comorbidity Dashboard using this data that will allow anyone in the United States to better understand the potential impact of contracting COVID-19.“We are delivering a first to the marketplace AI/ML based solution that helps people understand the risk of how comorbidities (pre-existing conditions) such as Essential Hypertension, Diabetes, and Disorders of lipoid metabolism can impact their likelihood of hospitalization, ICU admittance, or death”InterGen Data’s COVID-19 Comorbidity Dashboard delivers a simple, intuitive web app that utilizes a person’s Race, Age, Gender, and Comorbidities (pre-existing conditions) to indicate their likelihood of Hospitalization, ICU Admittance, or Death. InterGen Data’s prediction capability is based on historical daily data that has been collected from every county in the United States since January 1, 2020, and currently uses over 8.4 million records and 83 distinct features to correlate over 697 million data points. The dashboard produces prediction accuracy for Hospitalization at 75.6%, ICU Admittance at 76.5%, and Death at 82.9%.

“We are delivering a first to the marketplace AI/ML based solution that helps people understand the risk of how comorbidities (pre-existing conditions) such as Essential Hypertension, Diabetes, and Disorders of lipoid metabolism can impact their likelihood of hospitalization, ICU admittance, or death,” said InterGen Data Founder and CEO Robert J. Kirk. “As a Native American Indian with Hispanic blood, I am easily classified as someone who is in the highest-risk and most-impacted categories for COVID-19. If I contract this virus, I want to know what is likely to happen to me. And I owe it to my family to be properly prepared.”

In all, 13 students from Brandeis International Business School’s Master of Arts in International Economics and Finance (MA) and Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) programs collaborated with InterGen Data executives as part of the school’s Field Projects program. Field projects give students the opportunity to work under the guidance of a faculty advisor to solve real-world business problems on behalf of a corporate partner. InterGen Data also hired two International Business School students to work as interns on the COVID-19 project.

“Over the course of three semesters, this successful collaboration with InterGen Data provided our students with the opportunity to collect, organize and analyze COVID-19 data, create engaging data visualizations, and build an interactive web app,” said Ahmad Namini, Professor of the Practice of Business Analytics at Brandeis International Business School and the Faculty Advisor on the InterGen Data field project. “Experiential learning is foundational to our educational philosophy at the International Business School, and this field project allowed our students to apply what they’ve learned in the classroom in a real-world business setting.”
